One of the first things you’re bound to notice upon your arrival on Hydra is the conspicuous lack of automobiles. In fact, you probably won’t ever see a single wheeled vehicle of any kind here. No high-rise buildings either.

What you will find is a network of tiny, quaint, winding streets that are lined with beautiful churches, cathedrals, mansions and museums. Many of these buildings date back to the 18th century CE. The most traffic you’ll see on the streets of hydra involve other people and, on rare occasion, a few donkeys.

This is another Greek island that was a big vacation destination for celebrities years back. Sophia Loren and Leonard Cohen were said to be regular visitors here. Over the years, though, the island has retreated into obscurity. What does this mean for the average traveler? It means a chance to enjoy this still-chic piece of paradise on the Mediterranean practically to yourself.
