The Catskills, New York
Making up an incredible 6,000 square miles in southeastern New York state, the Catskill mountains consist of 35 peaks topping 3,500 feet and six major waterways. Both locals and visitors have a particular affection for harvest season with numerous craft fairs, farmer’s markets, and fall festivals creating an atmosphere of celebration in the many small towns and villages that make up the Catskills.
The colors are best between the end of September and late-October with peak time being close to Columbus Day. Book ahead if you plan to visit that weekend, though, as heavy tourist traffic is common at that time.
